This postcard features a historic view of Market Street in Steubenville, Ohio. The city is known as “America’s Hub” and is located along the Ohio River National Scenic Byway in Jefferson County. The county was named after President Thomas Jefferson and was established in 1797. Steubenville, the county seat, was laid out by Bezaleel Wells and James Ross in the same year. The city was incorporated as a town in 1805 and as a city in 1825. The postcard also showcases the Hub Department Store, which opened in 1904 and was later sold to Good’s Department Store in 1978. Unfortunately, the store closed in 1980 and the building was demolished in 1993.
