Back of PostcardCarlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico is known for its spectacular bat flights. Around 3 million bats emerge from the cavern entrance each evening from mid-May to early October, flying off in a southeasterly direction. The bats return around midnight until daybreak, staying in a remote part of the caverns unseen on regular tours. The caverns maintain a constant temperature of 56 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. Visitors can witness this natural phenomenon, with the bats’ flight lasting for two to three hours. The park is open year-round for exploration.
