Back of PostcardFort Augusta, a historical site in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, was built in 1756 to control the Susquehanna River. It was constructed by Pennsylvania to protect settlers and their Native American allies from attacks by the French and Indians from Western Pennsylvania. Sunbury developed around the fort. The site also features the Hunter Mansion, built in 1852, which now houses museum exhibits about the area’s history. Fort Augusta is now owned by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. The postcard showcases a large-scale model of the fort and the surrounding area, providing a glimpse into its strategic significance.
