The postcard features a color photograph of the Lourdes Grotto on the Alvernia College campus in Reading, Pennsylvania. Alvernia University is a private Franciscan Roman Catholic university. The Lourdes Grotto is a replica of the famous grotto in Lourdes, France, a site of pilgrimage for Catholics. The postcard was made by Dexter Press, Inc. in West Nyack, New York, and produced by the Country Studio of Photography in Witmer, Pennsylvania. The image was captured by photographer Mel Horst.
